The Gideons of Kansas and Missouri are planning a Citywide Scripture Blitz during May 1-3, 2024 in the greater Kansas City area. It is estimated that The Gideons will be able to hand place approximately 75,000 Bibles into local Kansas City businesses and government facilities that include hotels, motels, police and fire stations, nursing homes, clinics, doctors and dentist offices as well as sidewalk distribution for local middle and high schools and a few colleges and universities. When The Gideons last did this in 2016, they placed 75,000 Bibles in 1,881 different locations within a three-day period, giving thousands of people access to God’s Holy Word!

Building on the above-mentioned foundational and concentrated effort by The Gideons, we are preparing and planning for at least 100 churches to mobilize teams to distribute Bibles in the neighborhoods near their church buildings, expecting about 30,000 Bible to be given out through this church-based effort. All of this is expected to result in over 100,000 Bibles distributed in the greater Kansas City area. Of course, along with this Bible distribution comes multitudes of opportunities for Gospel conversations…people sharing about Jesus with others. Information about the local church and an invitation to upcoming worship services can also be given out during this process.

We are thankful for The Gideons’ role with the local church-based element of this Citywide Scripture Saturation, too. The Gideons are providing a good number of trainers who will equip church-based teams for Conversations during which they will be Sharing Jesus Without Fear. This is a free morning or afternoon training that will be provided during the following Saturdays: April 6, 13, 20, and 27. There are enough trainers to allow for equipping up to 24 churches each of those Saturdays during April 2024. While Bible distribution and Gospel conversations are encouraged along the way for this church-based effort, the focused Citywide Scripture Saturation by the church-based teams will happen on Saturday, May 4, when all of the teams go into their neighborhoods and go door-to-door to share about Jesus, give away a pocket-sized Bible, and invite people to visit their church. At a designated time, each church group of teams can gather back together to share stories and pray together. (We are also considering a citywide gathering one week later on Saturday, May 11, so all of the churches and teams can celebrate and share stories together.)

Gideons International just rolled out a brand new training program called, “Conversations” that takes Bill Fay’s “Share Jesus Without Fear” training to a new level. We have several Gideons that have been professionally trained to facilitate this program and we are offering this training to local churches free of charge. Our hope is to be able to equip people to easily share their faith with co-workers, neighbors, friends, and family.

With 100 or more churches involved, and if each church were committed to distributing at least 300 small pocket Bibles during the Citywide Scripture Saturation (to co-workers, neighbors, friends, and family), we could distribute another 30,000 copies of God’s Word and together, with the work the Gideons will be doing during May 1-3, the total Bible distribution would exceed 100,000 Bibles in a one-week period, saturating the entire city.
