The Jula people live along the trade routes of Côte d’Ivoire in Africa. Jula is a trade language primarily spoken by millions within the major cities of Côte d’Ivoire and important to the economic development of these people. Their social structure is built around a strong loyalty to familial clan groups, with their identity being derived from the particular clan they belong to. Though considered illegal, polygamy is still prevalent within the Jula people and girls and boys are encouraged to marry within their own clan.
The Jula people have a rich oral tradition, and they express their history through plays and storytelling.
