Trauma-Informed Ministry: Preaching Care in Our Churches and Communities

This event is being presented by Nazarene Theological Seminary / NTS Praxis.

Nazarene Theological Seminary/NTS Praxis Preachers Conference theme is Trauma-Informed Ministry: Preaching Care in Our Churches and Communities. Dr. David Wang of Fuller Theological Seminary opens the conference with a keynote on Christ’s death and resurrection as the foundation for trauma-informed ministry, drawing from John 20:19-23 and his own research on clergy mental health and trauma exposure.

Workshops include Dr. Brad Kelle and Dr. Jenny Matheny on preaching Scripture in traumatic times; Rev. Dr. Diane Leclerc on preaching forgiveness without minimizing the experience of those who have been sinned against. Melissa Frye and Dr. Todd Frye on how trauma and the nervous system shape the way church members show up, and Rev. Tania Resendiz on embodied spiritual practices for pastors’ own self-awareness. Kayla Smith and Rev. Tammy Herbert on reaching and teaching kids carrying trauma. Sessions run 9/22-23
