Desert Stream/Living Waters Ministries provides help for Christians struggling with sexual and relational problems. Our help is based on the biblical foundation of compassion, integrity, and dependence on God. We seek to convey Jesus, “full of grace and truth,” (John 1:14) to broken ones seeking mercy.
Living Waters is a 20-week closed group for men and women seeking healing in their lives. It is an intensive and unique small group. Ultimately, we learn how to press into Jesus more deeply, allowing Him to meet our needs and transform us for His Kingdom purposes. With groups all over the world, and with over 45 years of ministering God’s healing love, the Living Waters program is a proven path of healing.
DSM Care is the newest initiative of Desert Stream Ministries. Offering one-time consultations – in-person or online – providing help and encouragement related to their relationships and/or sexuality. In addition to consultations, we also offer the following groups:
CrossCurrent online, an open 8-week, Christ-centered support group for men and women seeking truth and grace in their sexuality and relationships. Offered once per quarter, participants may join anytime during the group. See here for information/registration.
Oasis, a group for parents, family, and friends who desire to be present to their loved-ones who identify with alternative sexual identities. Meeting each month, in person or online, see here for information/registration.
Dean has been staff with Desert Stream Ministries since 2001, he served for 20 years as the National Coordinator for Living Waters in the US. Now serving as the DSM Care Coordinator, Dean meets individually and in groups, both in person and online, working with people from over 40 different nations.
Dean lives in Kansas City, MO with his wife and son and attends the Vineyard Community Church in Overland Park, KS., where he coordinates the Living Waters program.
Dean emailed me the following: I am recently being encouraged by John 8:31-32 – “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” The call to continue digging into God’s word as a source of freedom is not only helpful but key to remaining His disciple.

Derek Handley will share with us about STRATIA ministry.
At the beginning of 2025, Derek launched a new men’s group called STRATIA. This is a group designed to encourage and challenge young husbands and dads in the Kansas City area. This word STRATIA derives from the Greek and means: band of soldiers, collective power, unified front.
Judges 8:4 says: “Then Gideon and the 300 men who were with him came to the Jordan and crossed over, weary yet pursuing.” Gideon and his 300 men were exhausted from battle, they were weary, but the battle was not over, so they pursued their enemy despite their weariness. Individually, these guys would not have been impressive, but when they were together these weary men became powerful.
Young husbands and dads can relate to this phrase “weary yet pursuing”. We are in a great season of life, but a weary and exhausting season nonetheless. When weariness sets in, our fleshly response can be to isolate. We isolate ourselves from God and from other Godly men. STRATIA fights this fleshly response of isolation and becomes a collective power with the men around us, and commits despite the weariness to pursue God nonetheless.
At STRATIA, we desire to be men who lead our families well and grow as disciples of Christ. When you bring men together who all are running after the same thing, we believe powerful things can happen. We become a STRATIA, a collective power, a band of soldiers, a unified front, an army of men.
