COME AND SEE! COME AND HEAR! COME AND SEE! COME AND HEAR!
Kimberly Miller will share with us about Empire Dreams.
She is the Founder and Director of Empire Dreams, with the mission to support the development and sustainability of thriving and empowered communities. Empire Dreams is currently piloting and proving out a replicable model of neighborhood transformation in a government subsidized housing community in east-side Kansas City. From the inside out they are raising up hidden leaders and entrepreneurs to be the change agents of their own communities. From the inside out they are walking with families from poverty to enduring homeownership. From the inside out they are unlocking the destiny of individuals who have given up on themselves. From the inside out they are seeing Jesus manifest His resurrection and life in the forgotten parts of our city.
Kimberly emailed me the following: My song right now is Psalm 6:4. In the face of a myriad of health challenges, I am sitting before my Father, confident of His great love for me, and petitioning for HIS mercy and deliverance in my body. Simply for the sake of His steadfast love, would he heal me, deliver me and save me.

Leo Gibson will with share us about the charity Kick for Christ.
Leo Gibson, born on August 9, 1983, in Monrovia, Liberia, is a distinguished figure in professional soccer, particularly known for his contributions to indoor soccer in the United States. Fleeing the Liberian civil war, Gibson sought refuge in the U.S. in 2002, where he pursued collegiate soccer at King College in Tennessee during 2002 and 2003. His professional career commenced with the Minnesota Thunder in 2005, and he later showcased his talents with teams such as the Detroit Ignition, Philadelphia KiXX, and the Missouri/Kansas City Comets. Throughout his tenure with the Comets, Gibson achieved remarkable milestones, including becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in Kansas City’s professional indoor soccer history, amassing over 334 goals. His exceptional performance during the 2014–15 season earned him the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Most Valuable Player award. Transitioning into coaching, Gibson served as the head coach for the Kansas City Comets from 2019 until his retirement in March 2024.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Gibson is deeply committed to philanthropy. In 2009, he co-founded “Kick for Christ,” a 501(c)(3) Christian charity organization, alongside fellow Liberian native Worteh Sampson. The organization aims to provide soccer gear and professional training to youth in Liberia and Kansas City, utilizing soccer as a medium to impart faith-based values and life skills. “Kick for Christ” has been instrumental in organizing free soccer camps for urban youth in Kansas City and has undertaken missions to Liberia to distribute equipment and conduct training sessions. One of their notable projects includes the construction of a school in Liberia, reflecting their dedication to uplifting communities through education and sport.
In addition to his charitable endeavors, Gibson established the LG Soccer Academy in Liberty, Missouri. This academy offers comprehensive training programs for young athletes, emphasizing not only technical skills but also personal development through core values such as grit, faith, confidence, commitment, and passion. Gibson’s multifaceted career as a player, coach, mentor, and philanthropist underscores his unwavering dedication to the sport of soccer and the positive impact it can have on individuals and communities alike.
The story of Kick for Christ began over 20 years ago. Worteh Sampson and Leo Gibson grew up in Liberia during the country’s first civil war and spent much of their childhood moving from place to place to avoid the fighting and turmoil. Although they didn’t know each other yet, they both shared a passion and talent for soccer, which would cause their paths to cross many years later.
In September of 2006, Leo traveled to Detroit, Michigan to try out for the city’s professional indoor soccer team. Sampson was the team member who was assigned to pick up Leo from the airport. During the car ride, Sampson and Leo realized that they were both Liberians and Christians, and a rich and deep friendship began that has since spanned across several years, two different professional soccer teams, and two states.
It was Leo who first thought of Kick for Christ in 2009 during his Bible study time and reached out to Sampson to see if he wanted to be involved. Together they began collecting soccer uniforms and equipment to send back home to Liberian youth. They visited local churches in Kansas City and Detroit to share their mission and vision, and also began planning trips to Liberia to deliver the goods they had gathered. They also organized free soccer camps for youth living in urban Kansas City, Missouri.
Since the beginning, Kick for Christ’s purpose has been to use soccer and faith in Jesus Christ to reach young people. The next mission trip to Liberia is set for April 2019.
