My name is Alicia Ruhl. I received my BFA in Visual Communications from MO State. I worked as a Graphic Designer for Medical Consulting Group in Springfield, MO, prior to starting my own company, Design Pfile, Inc. When invited to become a Creative Director for LFE Institute, I became more selective with the jobs I accepted with Design Pfile, Inc. As Creative Director, I was responsible for hiring, training and supervising staff, along with purchasing hardware and software for LFE. I was blessed to attend two “HOW Design” conferences during my tenure there.

We moved to Lees Summit in 2006, and I was awarded “2007 New Member of the Year” for the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce. Opportunities with the Lee’s Summit Chamber included planning the “Emerging Entrepreneurs” conferences, founding the “Chamber Young Professionals” and being selected to sit on the Board of Directors. Also around that time I designed the logo for Lee’s Summit Cares “Community of Character.”

When my oldest was 4 months old, I stepped back from the business professional world to be a full-time Wife and Mom.

In 2019, as a mom of 4, I founded Faithfull by Design, with the motto of “We fight trafficking in a beautiful way.” I created jewelry and apparel with my “h4: hunger for hope. home. heaven. help. healing. her. Him” logo, then sold these items and donated the proceeds to organizations fighting sex trafficking in KC.

Along the way, I fell in love with an art medium called “alcohol ink,” and began creating unique, whimsy, vibrant and nature-inspired artwork. I brought together the “h4” symbol with my alcohol ink art for many products. In addition to selling my art and donating the proceeds to organizations such as ReHope and Relentless Pursuit Outreach & Recovery (RPOR), I host “Art & Awareness” events such as film screenings about trafficking and “Ink Adventure” (learn to paint with alcohol ink) classes.

Today, our shop (www.faithfullbydesign.com/shop) has prints, note cards, bookmarks, apparel, jewelry and home decor for sale. I am constantly adding new prints and products.

One of my favorite Bible Verses is Psalm 46:1, “God is a very present help in time of need.”

Rex Barber will share with us an update on Engineering Ministries International.

My name is Rex Barber, and I’d like to share a bit about my journey with EMI (Engineering Ministries International), a ministry dedicated to supporting the global Church on the international mission field.

My first mission trip as a believer was to China with my church small group in 1988. That experience was life-changing, and I’ve been deeply involved in missions ever since. My earliest missions work was local, serving in the Colorado Springs and Kansas City areas with Habitat for Humanity.

In 1994, I volunteered with EMI on a project in Zacapa, Guatemala, working on a large orphanage campus. That trip set the stage for my long-term calling with EMI—a ministry I’ve now been part of for over 30 years, including 26 years on staff.

In the fall of 1999, I joined EMI’s staff at our headquarters in Colorado Springs. For more than 22 years, I served as a full-time project leader, guiding teams of architects and engineers on short-term mission trips. EMI partners with Christian ministries already making a Kingdom impact, helping them plan and develop their facilities—ranging from hospitals, seminaries, and schools to agricultural projects and more. Since joining EMI, I’ve traveled to over 50 countries and conducted mission work in 35 countries. My work has taken me throughout Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean, with a few projects in Europe and Central Asia, including some in more closed-access countries.

Over the last two years, my focus has shifted to serving as an MPD (Ministry Partner Development) coach. In this role, I train and equip new and existing staff, interns, and fellows to build strong support bases so they have the resources needed to sustain the ministry God has called them to.

Rex joined staff with EMI in 1999. He is ordained as a Gospel Worker and has a calling to the nations for Christ.

  • Rex comes to EMI with 20+ years’ experience in commercial and residential design.  Before Rex’s architecture experience, he grew up and worked on the family farm/ranch in central Kansas.
