I am a sophomore at Kansas State University. I am studying Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education. I grew up in Shawnee, KS and plan to teach in Kansas City when I graduate. This year things were very different for me, as they were for everyone. I had to leave for school last spring and have had all of my classes virtual since then. Although the experience has hindered my education in some ways, it has also given me the opportunity to learn in new ways and do things I never would have gotten to do. My favorite ways to spend my free time are spending time with family and friends, helping others grow in their faith, working out, and watching movies! I am excited to get to share with you what I have learned over the last year and how it has impacted me as a learner, and as a future educator.
Born in North Kansas City and raised in St. Joseph, MO, I am a veteran teacher of 36 years and still going strong. I went to Missouri Western State College where I received my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, University of North Texas where I started a master’s in counseling, and MidAmerica Nazarene where I received my Master’s in Education. My teaching experience has varied from 4th-6th grades from Missouri to Texas to Kansas where I am currently teaching 6th grade math at a middle school in the Blue Valley School District. I should probably include that I teach Science, but it is the first time I have done so in over 25 years and hopefully will be the last! I also do PD training through Kansans Can College and Career Competency Training where I facilitate teachers and other district staff on conflict management training for their students. I enjoy being with my family and friends, reading, time with my Bible Study group, being active to stay young, and time at the lake or in the country.
