Pastor Paul Johnson

Pastor Paul Johnson

first confessed Christ in 1968 at the age of 16. He began his Christian experience under the late Moses Williams at the New Hope Baptist Church in Edwardsville, Kansas. At the age of 19, Pastor Williams appointed him as Sunday school superintendent. He served in that capacity for two years. In 1975 Pastor Johnson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the military until 1979. He obtained the rank of E5 infantry platoon Sergeant. In 1979 he returned to Kansas City and in 1985 he was united in marriage with his college sweetheart First Lady Oma Johnson.

Pastor Johnson had a desire to become a better provider for his family, so from 1981-1992 while being employed at the Ameribanc Data Services as a computer operator and supervisor, he decided to return to college to complete his education. He attended Johnson County Community College and Park University earning Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration, respectively. Pastor Johnson was employed by Commerce Bank in Kansas City for the last 15 years as Assistant Vice President of the Transit Department. He retired from Commerce on 1/31/2018. Pastor Johnson was employed in the banking industry for 34 years. Pastor Johnson received his primary Christian training in ministry under Pastor Perry Martin Victoria Tabernacle Assemblies of God Church in Kansas City, Kansas where he served as the Bus Ministry Pastor, a member of the puppet team, Interim Children’s church Pastor and a part of the evangelistic team from 1988 to 1994. In 1994 Pastor Johnson was asked to come and serve as the Assistant Pastor of New beginnings and eventually the Agape New Beginnings Ministries where he served under Pastor Arnold Dewayne Doss until 2007. In May 2007 after much prayer and consultation HELPS ministry was founded by Senior Pastor Paul and Co-pastor Oma Johnson. They began their ministry at the Patmos Life Centered Ministries located at 1106 N 13th Street Kansas City Kansas from a generous open door extended to them from Pastor and Leslie C. and First Lady Doris Jenkins. In July 2019 retired Church of God Pastor Phyliss Viers asked Pastor Johnson if he would consider assuming the responsibilities of Gladstone Community Church where she was pastoring under the Church of God. With prayer and with the HELPS Ministries church congregation and Gladstone Community church we mutually agreed to merge our churches and for Pastor Johnson to become the senior Pastor and President under the Church of God. In April 2020 Pastor Johnson received his minister’s license from the Missouri church of God and in July 2020 the church merger was completed, and the name was changed to The Church at Gladstone H.E.L.P.S.

The Johnsons have been married for 35 years, have 5 children and 16 grandchildren and have been serving as Pastors in the Kansas City Community for 14 years.
